Late Bollywood stars Sushant Singh Rajput, Rishi Kapoor, Irfan Khan, Shashi Kala and famous costume designer Bhanu Athaiya were honored by the Academy Awards Association in its “The Memorium” gallery.
While Legendary Irfan khan and Designer Bhanu Athaiya were featured in a tribute video aired “In Memorium” section whereas Sushant Singh Rajput, Shashi kala and Rishi Kapoor were included in a larger gallery on the website.
In last one year world witnessed many artists leaving this world unexpectedly or succumbing to the health issues. Irfan Khan, a legend and veteran in Bollywood and also made a mark in Hollywood passed away at the age of 53 on April 29, 2020 after a prolonged illness. He was featured in some unforgettable movies like The Warrior, Slumdog Millionaire, The Amazing Spiderman, The Life of Pi, Jurassic World and Inferno.
Bhanu Athaiya who won the best costume design Academy Award and a BAFTA for the movie Gandhi by Sir Richard Attenborough passed away in 2020, received an honorable mention in the video. Legendary Rishi Kapoor died after two long years of battle with cancer. While Sushant Singh Rajput passed away at his residence in Bandra on June 14 2020, Actress Shashikala had succumbed to age related complications.
In Hollywood also many famous artists like Chadwick Boseman, Ian Holm, Sean Connery, George Lucas, Larry King, Helen McCrory were mentioned in the Memoriam video. Oscar Nominee Angela Basett gave a speech that paid homage to all the lost souls of this entertainment world over the past year, including actors, writers, directors and technicians. Micro-Blogging site Twitter was flooded with fan messages after noticing this tribute to Indian Film Industry. The 93rd Academy Award was held on Sunday (April 25) from two locations in Los Angeles – Union Station and Dolby Theatre. In India it was Live streamed on Monday (April 26) from 5:30 am to 8:30 am.
